　　My Grandpapa lives in a wonderful house
" ?  q6 ^# p9 H0 q& }　　With a great many windows and doors,
　　There are stairs that go up, and stairs that go down,
$ c' O! T0 ^0 Q% M6 l　　And such beautiful, slippery floors.
  n' G" m. u7 e. a# H　　But of all of the rooms, even mother's and mine,
　　And the bookroom, and parlour and all,
; Q4 _, v1 C" c0 A# e6 C8 S! C" g　　I like the green dining-room so much the best
- J; t' x; d5 [1 K6 P　　Because of its ceiling and wall.
/ W& {! \: D1 z　　Right over your head is a funny round hole
　　With apples and pears falling through;
6 W8 e2 G9 \9 A* V7 L$ o　　There's a big bunch of grapes all purply and sweet,
% r2 X6 u& c( [1 g$ G" Z0 P* T2 M　　And melons and pineapples too.
　　They tumble and tumble, but never come down
- m3 C5 V; ]5 Z2 \　　Though I've stood underneath a long while
　　With my mouth open wide, for I always have hoped
　　Just a cherry would drop from the pile.
　　No matter how early I run there to look
　　It has always begun to fall through;
& _* Y1 s5 N  y' N6 f, `　　And one night when at bedtime I crept in to see,
　　It was falling by candle-light too.
　　I am sure they are magical fruits, and each one
5 e* \2 E0 V+ F) I　　Makes you hear things, or see things, or go
/ f/ S) M: q" q' ^" k9 Q　　Forever invisible; but it's no use,
3 V# E+ J- j) j2 H$ H7 v　　And of course I shall just never know.
  C8 y7 _( R# r! X8 U$ v; R　　For the ladder's too heavy to lift, and the chairs
　　Are not nearly so tall as I need.
　　I've given up hope, and I feel I shall die
+ V9 h$ f- [& x　　Without having accomplished the deed.
! a( a5 a) z  a9 W; y/ P　　It's a little bit sad, when you seem very near
　　To adventures and things of that sort,
& h/ k3 M& Z9 d: J- i; l$ Q) D& F& R. q　　Which nearly begin, and then don't; and you know
　　It is only because you are short.
